Summary
Ontologies are a suitable way for representing complex domains. Our work is focused on using ontologies as background knowledge to improve the results of the traditional clustering methods. In this report, a new proposal to measuring similarity in ontologies is presented. This approach is based on projecting the ontology into a numerical data matrix and then applying Euclidean distances. Different ways of projecting the knowledge are described and compared. The results, obtained with two different medical ontologies, show that the results are quite similar in some cases. Finally, the advantages and drawbacks of each approach are highlightened
